Seda Gypsy
Reviews - Kayaks
The GYPSY is a compact sea kayak equipped the same as SEDA’s larger sea kayaks. It was in development for over a year, and ever since its introduction in 1993, has gained an excellent reputation among serious paddlers on both coasts of the United States. The outstanding review done independently by Sea Kayaker Magazine in the Fall of 1994 is the best testimony of GYPSY's qualities.

Since then many people have enjoyed the opportunity to test-paddle the GYPSY, including a few with absolutely no previous paddling experience. They invariably give it their enthusiastic approval because of its stability and ease of handling. A smaller person does not have the strength of arm to turn and maneuver a long sea kayak. Nevertheless, smaller people still demand performance and the ability to maneuver without great physical effort. The GYPSY meets those needs.

The GYPSY has a shallow "V" running the length of the hull, a clean entry and a properly shaped stern to reduce skating around (so common in shorter kayaks). This sharp stern also limits weather-cocking in a cross-wind. Weather-cocking is also minimized by the high bow which offers more sideways wind resistance. GYPSY is a stable boat with its 24" beam and can be easily paddled by beginners. And experienced paddlers of small and medium stature will find the boat comfortable and fast, despite its shorter 15" length. On the contrary, GYPSY can be considered a fast sea kayak when compared to other similar length kayaks because of its low wetted surface design.

Standard features in all construction types include a molded seat with comfortable, adjustable backrest, and adjustable foot rests; bow and stern bulkhead and elliptical bow and stern hatches with neoprene and overlaying fiberglass covers. Other welcome items are the bow and deck lashing kits with countersunk eye-straps and toggle portage carrying handles. An optional rudder system is also available for those planning to do rough water paddling.
