The IMPULSE by SEDA Kayaks
Reviews - Kayaks

SEDA had multiple requests for an 18-foot long high-performance touring kayak. Their famous GLIDER, the winner of so many long distance sea races was a bit too long for the general public. Experienced recreational paddlers wanted a slightly shorter, lighter boat for ease of transport and to be more maneuverable on the water, and that is what SEDA created.

Seda Impulse Kayak

The IMPULSE is a shortened version of the GLIDER. The result is absolutely incredible. With its shorter length and low wetted surface, it is only slightly slower than the super-fast GLIDER. With the added volume in the ends the IMPULSE is able to accommodate larger paddlers (up to 230 lbs.) and quite a bit of gear for fast extensive expeditions. Nevertheless, even smaller and lighter paddlers are able to paddle the IMPULSE effectively because of its narrow beam and low wetted surface.

The IMPULSE was tested extensively in very rough, high wind and sea conditions in Baja, California and found to behave well on all points of wind and waves. It has good secondary stability and does not weathercock excessively. This is due to its narrow, molded-in aft keel. The IMPULSE has a narrow "V" carried through the entire hull length. Bow entry below the water is sleek, creating only negligible wake when paddling on a flat calm day. . In following seas, the upswept bow has enough forward buoyancy to reduce pearling (or pearl diving, a surfing term that describes what happens when a craft moving across the surface buries its’ bow in a wave.)

IMPULSE is an aesthetically pleasing boat on and off the water with its blend of traditional touring and modern racing kayak design. We recommend the IMPULSE to those intermediate and advanced paddlers who seek the thrill of paddling the ultimate in contemporary touring kayak design.

The IMPULSE offers as standard features in all three construction lay-ups: a molded seat with comfortable, adjustable backrest, and adjustable foot rests; bow and stern bulkheads and hatches including a12 X 16" oval-shaped stern hatch with neoprene and overlaying fiberglass cover. Other welcome features are the bow and deck lashing kits with countersunk eye-straps and toggle portage carrying handles. An optional rudder system is also available for the IMPULSE for paddlers that might expect to encounter rough conditions. Triple inside and single outside seams are standard in all constructions.
